Quick race-day tips
-
Arrive early — traffic around Saxonwold spikes before the start.
-
Follow marshals and signage. Some areas will be closed or reserved.
-
December in Joburg is hot by 08:00. Hydrate the day before, use every water point.
Race day rules
-
This event is run under ASA & CGA rules. Follow instructions from officials, marshals and JMPD at all times.
-
Licensed athletes: wear club colours + display ASA licence numbers front & back + wear your race number on the front.
-
Unlicensed 14K athletes: a temporary licence (valid for this event only) is added at entry and must be worn as directed. No licence is required for the 7K.
-
Running in someone else's name is cheating. Race numbers are not transferable on the day. If you gave your entry away, the name must have been officially changed before 13 December. Anyone running under another person's name — and the person who gave it to them — will be disqualified and banned.
-
Race bib must be visible from start to finish. Runners without a visible bib (and, on the 14K, a valid licence) will be removed from the course.
-
Minimum ages (ASA road-running rules, age on race day): 14K = 15 years · 7K = 14 years. Under-age entries will not be accepted; under-age finishers are not eligible for prizes.
-
Age-category prize contenders (14K): you must wear your ASA age-category letter / tag on the front and back of your vest so referees can identify you on route and at the finish. No tag, no category prize. Be ready to show proof of age.
-
No earphones / headphones.
-
No seconding or unauthorised assistance. Use official water points only.
-
No prams. No dogs. No pets, cyclists, prams, pushchairs or unauthorised devices on the route — either distance. You will be removed from the course.
-
Do not litter. Water and Coke are served in sachets — drink at the station and drop your sachet in the bins at the station, not on the road. This is our city. Littering is a disciplinary offence.
-
Toilets at the venue only.
-
Cut-offs are enforced: 14K 2h30, 7K 1h30. After cut-off, move to the pavement and follow marshal instructions.
RESULTS
Your official time will be SMSed to the mobile number on your entry shortly after you cross the line. Full results are published on jorunnersburg.co.za. Make sure your number is correct at entry.
ON ROUTE
-
Water & Coke stations: 14K — 4 on route + finish-line hydration station · 7K — 2 on route + finish-line hydration station
-
Do not litter. Bins at every station. Drink, drop it in the bin, keep moving.
-
Medics on route and at the finish
-
JMPD traffic control at key intersections — this is not a full road-closure race. Stay alert, keep to the side instructed and follow marshals.
